Households living near new or upgraded electricity pylons in Britain are set to receive discounts on their energy bills under a new government scheme.The first group of projects includes 43 transmission projects in more than 40 locations. Eligible homes within 500 metres of the infrastructure are expected to receive up to £2,500 over 10 years.The payments are meant to recognize the communities that host the grid upgrades needed to connect more clean electricity and strengthen the country’s energy system.The first payments are expected in the first half of 2027, after the projects receive the required consents and construction begins. Most eligible households will receive the discount automatically through their energy supplier.
