A 20-year-old spent weeks single-handedly clearing decades of trash and overgrowth from his village's 22-acre pond. There was no funding and no campaign, just someone who decided the pond his whole village depended on deserved better.
Local families say the water, and the village around it, already feels different.
There was no ribbon-cutting and no announcement beforehand, just a young man, day after day, pulling out what didn't belong until the water could breathe again.
Neighbors have since started pitching in with maintenance, and local officials say they hope the effort encourages similar cleanups nearby.
