The University of South Florida's College of Education received a $4.8 million U.S. Department of Education grant for a five-year effort supporting English learners from pre-K through third grade.
The project plans to fund training for about 110 educators through a graduate certificate for practicing teachers and a pathway combining a teaching master's degree with the certificate for people entering the profession. The first cohorts are expected in fall 2027.
With partners including Hillsborough County Public Schools and local Early Learning Coalitions, the team also plans a leadership academy for about 30 school and community leaders, along with classroom coaching for participating educators.
Researchers will study classroom practices and child outcomes as the work proceeds. The university has not yet reported results from the future program.
