One Tree Planted and the 9/11 Day National Commemoration Committee have launched Together We Grow, a campaign to plant 3,000 trees across the United States over the next year.

The number honors the people who died in the September 11 attacks. The first tree, a 15-foot planting, was scheduled for Battery Park's Labyrinth for Contemplation in Lower Manhattan.

Families of some victims were expected to attend the planting, bringing remembrance into a living public space that will keep changing with the seasons.

A tree cannot undo a loss. It can offer shade, habitat, and a place for people to pause, while carrying a memory forward.
