Education Cannot Wait has announced a $22 million initiative to help 200,000 children return to learning in West Darfur, South Kordofan and Gedaref.
The three-year programme will support children who have been displaced, refugee children and vulnerable families in host communities. At least 60 percent of the children reached will be girls, and 10 percent will be children with disabilities.
The work will help create safe learning spaces, provide mental-health and psychosocial support, train teachers, supply learning materials and address barriers that keep girls and children with disabilities out of school.
In a crisis, a classroom can offer more than lessons. It can give children a steady place to learn, meet trusted adults and begin to feel a little more like themselves again.
