The Scottish Government published a route map on August 31 for a National Staged Intervention Model in education. The model is meant to give schools and local authorities a more consistent way to record and respond to children and young people's support needs.
The goal is straightforward: children should receive the right support at the right time, with their progress reviewed regularly. Families should also be able to understand what help is available.
The work is being developed with local government and will move through stages including evidence gathering, co-design and model development. Children, young people, educators and early-learning settings are part of the evidence-gathering plan.
The Scottish Government says full implementation across all 32 council areas is planned for August 2028. The route map gives communities a way to follow the work before then.
