The Métis Nation of Ontario opened a new housing development in Midland on Oct. 23. The development contains 14 affordable two-storey homes for Métis citizens and their families.
The federal government says $4.2 million from its Urban, Rural and Northern Indigenous Housing Strategy supported the Midland development. Minister Rebecca Alty joined the Métis Nation of Ontario for the ribbon-cutting.
At the opening, Canada also announced an additional $21.1 million for the Métis Nation of Ontario's housing priorities. The funding can support new housing, including projects in Kenora and planning for future homes in other priority areas.
The Midland homes are open now. The government describes the additional construction as a future possibility supported by funding, not as homes already completed.
