Friend, Inc. Community Services received an $800,000 state grant to continue renovating its new permanent location at 60 Bieber Alley in Kutztown, Berks Weekly reported on October 9.
The first phase, which included the food pantry, opened in early September. The next phase is expected to begin in November and is planned to add a teaching kitchen, workshop space and rooms for other organizations.
The report named the Family Guidance Center and Maternal and Family Health Services, which administers Berks County's WIC program, among groups that could provide support at the site.
The planned additions are not complete yet. Friend, Inc. says the project is meant to make food assistance, educational programming and other services easier for northeastern Berks County residents to reach locally.
