More than 250 volunteers came together for a regional Day of Service across Charlottesville and the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and West Virginia.
The volunteers completed projects for 16 civic, educational, and faith-based nonprofits. The work included preparing lunches for guests at UVA Hospitality House and clearing overgrowth from gardens and fences at Piedmont Virginia Community College.
Other volunteers painted a shed for Habitat for Humanity, made cards for residents of nursing and rehabilitation homes, and assembled gift packages for children receiving cancer treatment at Sentara RMH Medical Center.
The projects were organized through JustServe, a community service initiative that connects people with local ways to help. One team also worked at CampLIGHT, a summer camp for people with disabilities.
