The Kalamazoo Promise announced that its scholarship program for Kalamazoo Public Schools graduates will expand to include Historically Black Colleges and Universities beginning in fall 2027, News Channel 3 reported on October 6.

The program provides eligible graduates with up to 100 percent tuition support for post-secondary education. The report did not list which colleges will qualify under the new option.

Kalamazoo Promise CEO Von Washington Jr. said HBCUs offer strong academic opportunities and communities, and that students should have the chance to choose that experience.

The change is scheduled for fall 2027, so it is an option in the works rather than a scholarship already available for the current term.
