The UK government has selected Greater Manchester for a pilot called Care Together. It will bring mental health professionals from existing NHS services into children’s social care teams.

The programme is planned to cover up to 7,000 children and young people, along with their parents, carers, or guardians, in Stockport, Tameside, and Rochdale. The government says the model is intended to make support easier to reach and better coordinated.

The government will provide up to £9.4 million over three years. The pilot is expected to start in early 2027 and run through 2029, with an evaluation to assess how it works and whether it could be expanded.

Because the pilot has not started, its outcomes are not yet known. The announcement describes a planned service, not a demonstrated improvement in care.
