After a night shift, off-duty security guard Goodson Mseleshe noticed a car stopped on Sarnia Road in Bellair with a mother and her two young children inside. They had run out of petrol, and the car was on a sharp turn.
Mseleshe asked another passerby to help move the car out of the road. When the mother could not pay for fuel in cash, he used the R100 he had with him to buy petrol.
A five-litre container was enough to start the car again. The mother later gave Mseleshe a lift to Rossburgh, and the Highway Mail reported that he is to receive a Distinguished Conduct award.
His help turned a worrying roadside delay into a moment of care for a family he had never met.
