The Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Government of Canada have approved $66.3 million for 162 energy-efficiency projects across the country.

The funding comes through two Green Municipal Fund programs. One supports municipal and partner-run financing for home upgrades, while the other helps affordable-housing providers retrofit buildings or build energy-efficient homes.

$34.6 million is approved for 21 community efficiency-financing projects, and $31.6 million for 141 affordable-housing projects. The work can include building improvements as well as program design and feasibility studies.

The Federation says more than 16,000 homeowners are anticipated to access home energy retrofits through the community-financing programs. The expected reach is a projection, while the approved funding covers both practical projects and planning work.
