The UK government announced almost £140 million for 14 urgent-care projects across England on October 18. The funding covers urgent treatment centres, same-day emergency care, ambulance services and improvements to hospital emergency departments.

Among the projects, East Midlands Ambulance Service is set to receive 40 additional double-crewed ambulances. A separate investment will expand assessment and treatment space at Basildon Hospital.

The projects are intended to increase capacity and help patients reach suitable care more quickly, especially during winter demand. The announcement describes new funding, so those planned improvements should not be mistaken for work already completed.
