Darcy Boelman, 29, and other LifeQuest participants went to a local cross-country meet with signs and goodie bags. Along the course, they cheered for runners and offered high-fives.
Boelman told the Mitchell Republic she hoped the encouragement would help tired runners keep going. The visit was one part of LifeQuest's 30 in 60 challenge, which invites people supported by the organization to take part in 30 acts of kindness over 60 days.
The challenge runs from Sept. 14 through Nov. 13. Participants help choose optional projects and often work with local businesses, schools or community groups, said Brian Loken of LifeQuest.
The small gesture let participants support other local residents as neighbors, with the activity shaped by the people taking part.
