Representatives of the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Alliance Fleuve Congo/March 23 Movement met with facilitators in Switzerland from August 17 to 21 to review the Doha peace process.
The joint statement said the parties welcomed progress on an expanded ceasefire verification mechanism, including the creation of a secretariat and a reconnaissance mission carried out with logistical support from the United Nations peacekeeping mission MONUSCO.
The representatives then agreed on a roadmap with sequenced steps and timelines for negotiating the remaining protocols under the Doha Framework for a Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
They reaffirmed their intention to continue negotiations toward comprehensive peace and conflict resolution. A first expanded ceasefire verification mission was scheduled for August 24 in Minembwe.
