Residents of Cape Breton Regional Municipality will get more accessible public transit through a $2.6 million investment announced on August 10.
The funding will buy six accessible mini-buses for Cape Breton Transit. It will also add five bus shelters, five crosswalks, and 1.75 kilometres of sidewalk.
The province is contributing $537,360, while the federal government is providing more than $2.1 million through the Rural Transit Solutions Fund.
The improvements are meant to make it easier for people to reach work, services, shops, and one another. A bus is a small piece of infrastructure, but for someone who cannot use a regular route easily, it can make a large difference.
