Albuquerque launched its Backyard Harvest Share on October 18, inviting local growers to donate whole, unprocessed produce for free distribution through the city’s Health and Social Services Centers.

Residents can bring eligible homegrown fruits, vegetables and herbs to any of four centers during operating hours or at city events. The city says no sign-up is needed.

The centers already operate food pantries and other services. The new program connects that network with people who have more produce than they need, though the city has not yet reported how much food has been collected or shared.
