The UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has authorised orforglipron, also called Foundayo, for weight management and for improving blood-sugar control in some adults with type 2 diabetes.
The decision makes the UK the first country in Europe to approve this GLP-1 medicine as a tablet. It is taken once a day and does not have food or water restrictions.
The authorisation applies to eligible adults alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It is a prescription-only medicine, and the agency said it will continue to monitor its safety and effectiveness.
The tablet is not currently available through the UK’s National Health Service. Any NHS use will be considered through the usual evaluation process.
