Great British Energy has opened £30 million in funding to help communities across the United Kingdom develop and own clean energy projects.
Local groups and councils can apply for support for projects such as solar panels on public buildings, community-owned wind farms, and small hydro schemes.
The first round includes a £20 million Community Fund, a £5 million Partnerships Grant, £1.8 million for Scotland’s existing support program, and money for advice services.
The government says the wider plan could support more than 1,000 local projects and help communities keep more of the benefits, including lower bills and money reinvested locally.
