The World Health Organization and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention welcomed Uganda's declaration that its Ebola outbreak had ended after 42 consecutive days without a new confirmed case.
Uganda recorded 20 confirmed cases of Bundibugyo virus. Fifteen were imported from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and five were locally acquired; 18 people recovered and two died.
More than 800 contacts were identified and monitored. Uganda's response included contact tracing, patient care, infection prevention, community engagement and continued surveillance.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo's outbreak was still ongoing, and WHO and Africa CDC called for continued testing, rapid investigation of alerts and cooperation across borders.
