A completed water-supply project has been handed over to South Sudan after drilling 47 boreholes in Central Equatoria and Lakes states.
The project gives communities more direct access to safe, clean drinking water. It also includes benefits for sanitation and hygiene, which can help reduce the spread of waterborne disease.
South Sudan's water resources minister said the project responds to a basic need in places affected by both floods and drought. The new facilities can also support livestock and other community activities.
The work began with an agreement signed in 2023. Its completion is a reminder that practical improvements often come from projects that take several years to finish.
