The Singapore Red Cross has committed an additional S$170,000 to help communities in Nepal recover from recent floods. The support will go through Red Cross and Red Crescent partners working on the ground.
About S$80,000 will provide staples such as rice and lentils to 2,500 households. Another S$90,000 will pay for water-filtration supplies, including 183 filters scheduled for deployment this weekend.
Each filter can produce more than 200 litres of clean water per hour and is designed to support a community of up to 200 people. The new package follows an earlier S$50,000 contribution.
The Singapore Red Cross said its public appeal had received more than S$3 million in donations. Nepal Red Cross teams have also been distributing blankets, mattresses, tarpaulins, hygiene kits, food and other emergency supplies.
