New York's Department of Environmental Conservation awarded $5 million in Green Jobs for Youth grants to 20 community organizations across the state.
The programs are designed to help young people ages 17 to 24 build skills for work in clean energy and other green industries, especially in communities facing pollution, climate impacts and employment challenges.
Training plans vary by organization. In Brooklyn, one grant supports paid instruction in clean energy, electric-vehicle battery systems and building efficiency. Other projects will prepare young people for work in areas such as urban forestry, conservation and climate resilience.
The awards fund training and pathways toward credentials or employment. They do not guarantee a job, but give local organizations resources to connect young people with skills employers are seeking.
