New York State awarded more than $97 million to 35 local projects intended to make walking, bicycling and other local travel safer and more accessible, according to a state release.
The awards include sidewalks and crossings near schools, accessible routes, trail connections and links to public transit. In Newark, the funding will support North Main Street sidewalks and a crossing signal near Lincoln Elementary School.
The money is for work planned or to be carried out, not projects already completed. Local governments will use the state and federal support for design, construction and related costs.
