New Brunswick is rolling out a school lunch program that gives every student in the province access to a healthy, balanced meal at school.
Families pay $4 for lunch in kindergarten through Grade 8 and $5 for Grades 9 through 12. The provincial government covers the remaining cost, and families who need more help can ask their school for a confidential full subsidy.
Every school will offer at least two choices each day, including a vegetarian option. Meals must follow the province's healthier school food policy.
The program was operating in 241 schools when the government announced it on September 10, with work continuing at the remaining schools. Students will also continue to have access to the province's universal breakfast program.
