When nine-year-old Ivy Nibarger decided to hold a lemonade stand for the Bath Area Food Bank, people in her Maine neighborhood quickly came to help.
Ivy sold lemonade and popsicles and raised $525. She told Spectrum News that she wanted to help people who did not have as much as she did.
Kimberly Gates, the food bank’s executive director, said the money could buy about a week and a half of food. Because Ivy raised it during summer, the food bank plans to use it for foods children enjoy while school meals are on pause.
Ivy said she got the idea after seeing people in need near a supermarket. Her stand also encouraged other children to bring money or food to the food bank.
