The Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation acquired 650 acres on Lake Palestine on October 1 for a future Texas state park.

The Henderson County property includes native pine forest, ponds, a pecan orchard and lake frontage. The Pollard family had owned the land since 1940.

The foundation says it will hold the property until the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department can purchase it, which is expected in late 2027. The transfer and public opening are still ahead.

The department plans to open access in phases, starting with guided visits and later adding day use and overnight stays. Habitat restoration and a public input process are also planned.
