Kutztown University announced two five-year U.S. Department of Education grants worth a total of $2.2 million for its visual impairment program.

A $1 million Braille Training Program award will support a project to strengthen Unified English Braille math instruction in PreK through grade 6 classrooms and improve teacher preparation.

A second award of $1.2 million will support a project to increase the number of trained and certified educators serving school-age students with visual impairments.

The university says the funding will support work over the next five years. The announcement describes planned activities, not results already achieved.
