Five students from Association International School have completed a borehole project for Tamanja, a farming community in Ghana's Oti Region.
The new water source is expected to improve access to clean drinking water for about 700 residents. The students started the project after learning about waterborne illness and the difficulties faced by communities without reliable water.
A US$2,500 grant from the International Baccalaureate Global Youth Action Fund paid for site assessment, drilling, construction, water testing, and the pump.
The students travelled from Accra to commission the finished borehole. Their project shows how learning can move beyond the classroom and become useful in people's daily lives.
