England's Environment Secretary announced £79 million for community efforts to restore nature and prepare for climate impacts.

Of that total, £53 million is planned for tree-planting projects from April 2027 to March 2030, with a target of up to 500,000 trees outside woodlands. Another £26 million will support local nature recovery strategies across 48 authorities.

Street and park trees can help cool urban areas and manage rainwater, while locally made plans can focus on the risks each community faces.

The announcement sets new funding in motion, but details for the tree fund are still to come. The planting work is still ahead.
