New York City officials and residents reopened community, child-care and senior centers at Edenwald Houses in the Bronx on October 22. The housing development serves nearly 5,000 residents across 2,035 apartments, according to the Mayor’s Office.
The senior center had been closed for more than 20 years. Its renovated space includes a commercial kitchen, event room and computer lab, with meals and transportation support provided by Bronx nonprofit R.A.I.N.
The community center will offer youth programmes and improved accessibility. Susan Wagner Day Care also received a modernized outdoor play area, updated flooring and plumbing, and accessibility work.
The $8.1 million center renovation is part of a broader modernization at Edenwald shaped by resident input. The reopening restores shared spaces for older adults, children and neighbors to meet and take part in local programmes.
