World Food Program USA and the Lions Clubs International Foundation announced a cleaner-cooking initiative for 30 primary schools in Turkana County, northern Kenya. The project is intended to reach more than 8,000 children through school meals.

The plan includes improved cookstoves and kitchen upgrades, training for 40 cooks, and engagement with 600 community members. The partners say the changes are intended to reduce smoke exposure and reliance on firewood.

The initiative is planned to run through June 2027. These are expected benefits rather than results already measured, and the project is meant to offer practical lessons for school meal programs.
