When a Cary, North Carolina, family lost its home in a fire, neighbors quickly looked for ways to help. The fire damaged the house on Strathorn Drive on a Saturday afternoon, according to the Cary Fire Department.
No one was inside when the fire started. Firefighters put out the flames, but the family was left without a home while the cause of the fire was investigated.
The next day, several neighborhood children set up a lemonade and snack stand to raise money for the family. Neighbor Laura Croyle also created an online fundraiser, which had already collected more than $5,000 when WRAL reported the story.
The first gifts did not fix everything, but they gave the family practical help and a clear message that they were not facing the hard days alone.
