Thirteen California cities and counties will share $11.3 million in new state funding to create more affordable housing.The awards went to communities that earned California's Prohousing Designation by adopting local policies meant to speed up housing construction, lower costs, and expand homes for people with lower incomes.The funding can support affordable homes, rapid rehousing services, emergency shelters, and other housing and community development work. The awardees include Arvin, Benicia, Chula Vista, Culver City, Indio, Lancaster, Santa Ana, Santa Barbara, Sunnyvale, Woodland, and three counties.The California Department of Housing and Community Development says the program has awarded $70.3 million so far through four rounds of its Prohousing Incentive Program.The new money will not solve the state's housing shortage by itself, but it gives local teams more resources to turn plans into places where people can live.
