At a warehouse in Atlanta, volunteers are turning donated bicycles into safe rides for children across the region.Free Bikes 4 Kidz Atlanta collects used bikes, cleans and repairs them, and checks each one before it leaves. When a bicycle cannot be fully restored, usable parts can help repair another one.Every bike the organization gives away comes with a helmet. Children also learn how to wear it properly, use hand signals, and travel safely on city streets.The group was preparing 25 bicycles for a September 2 bike rodeo at Glanton Elementary School in Grantville. CBS News Atlanta reports that the organization distributes about 1,000 to 1,200 bicycles each year, with help from volunteers, donations, and local cycling groups.For some children, a bicycle means more than a way to travel. It can help them reach friends, activities, and new parts of their neighborhood.
