Matthew Johnson, 13, noticed that something was wrong when his elderly neighbor appeared to be having a stroke.

He had learned to recognize stroke warning signs from a magnet on his family's refrigerator. After letting his father know he planned to call 911, Johnson placed the call.

The New Hanover County 911 Center later recognized Johnson for his response at a community event in Wilmington. WWAY reported that his quick call helped save his neighbor's life.

Johnson's story shows how paying attention and asking for help can make a difference in a neighborhood.
