The United Kingdom has announced its intention to invest £400 million in the Tropical Forests Forever Facility, a fund designed to support countries that protect their forests.
The money would be provided as a loan rather than a grant, and the announcement says the investment still depends on finalising the facility's rules, structure, and due diligence.
Under the proposed model, forest countries would not repay the funding. The facility is meant to earn investment returns and use performance-based payments to reward countries that keep forest cover intact.
Tropical forests hold carbon, support wildlife, and help people whose lives depend on healthy land and water. A long-term way to finance their protection could make conservation easier to sustain.
