The Ontario government announced on October 5 that it had invested $38 million to fund 1,504 additional student seats at Trent University in Peterborough.

The places are divided among STEM programs, education, health and other labour-market-focused fields. The largest share, 1,081 seats, is for STEM; 163 are in education, 126 in health and 134 in other programs.

The province says students may enroll in the new seats as early as the fall 2026 academic year.

The Trent investment is part of a broader provincial plan to fund more than 70,000 additional postsecondary seats across Ontario. The announcement concerns funded spaces, not a guarantee of admission or a job after graduation.
