Karla and Salvador Villareal, who own VIP Cleaners in San Diego, offer to clean an interview outfit at no cost for someone who is unemployed and looking for work.
Retired reporter Leigh Fenly noticed the offer in the shop window late last year. The gesture stayed with her, and she began asking how she could share more stories about people helping one another.
Fenly's answer was Kindness Happens Here, a free monthly online publication. Former colleagues have volunteered their time and skills to write, edit, design and illustrate it.
A simple service for job seekers has grown into a place where San Diegans can find more examples of generosity in their own community.
