Rwanda and the European Investment Bank have signed a €65 million financing agreement for the Volcanoes Community Resilience Project in the country’s northwest.The work will cover eight districts: Gakenke, Burera, Musanze, Nyabihu, Rubavu, Rutsiro, Ngororero, and Muhanga. More than 2.3 million people live in areas the project is designed to help.Plans include flood-risk reduction, watershed restoration, landscape rehabilitation, biodiversity conservation, and new livelihood opportunities for local communities.The project brings several kinds of protection together: safer communities, healthier landscapes, and practical support for people whose livelihoods depend on the land.
