When wildfire flames moved closer to the Okanagan community of Desert Cove, 90-year-old John Belleville was still at home. His daughter, Shiloh, was hundreds of kilometres away and began calling anyone who might be able to help. One of those calls reached Bob Tutush, a stranger to the family. He drove to John's house, took time to earn his trust, and helped him leave safely. The evacuation centre had no room for John that night, so a family friend provided a bed. The next morning, Bob offered to drive John nearly 400 kilometres to Vancouver. The long trip ended with John back beside his daughter. A frightening emergency had brought two strangers together, and started a friendship the family says it will not forget.
