Starting October 1, Nigerian students will be able to use 100 megabytes of free data each day on approved educational websites and digital learning platforms.
The first students covered will be learners in public senior secondary schools and public tertiary institutions. The program is being organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission with the Federal Ministry of Education and telecommunications operators.
Approved resources may include learning management systems, digital libraries, teacher development platforms, and technical training sites. The two government bodies will decide which platforms are included.
The education minister said the goal is to make sure that the cost of internet data does not keep learners from reaching useful lessons and study materials.
