New York launched its $225 million Clean Water for Housing grant program on October 23. The state says it is meant to help municipalities upgrade water infrastructure needed for housing projects.

The program makes $175 million available statewide, with a further $50 million reserved for rural municipalities. Eligible projects can include drinking-water, sewer and stormwater improvements, and applicants must meet the state's program rules.

The launch announcement invited applications and said awards would be made first-come, first-served until the funds were allocated. It opens a funding process rather than reporting completed upgrades or housing outcomes.

By connecting essential water infrastructure with housing, the program aims to help communities address one practical barrier to growth.
