On October 22, Massachusetts announced more than $5 million in grants to expand its Innovation Career Pathways programs. The programs give high school students hands-on learning and ways to explore careers in growing industries.
More than $4.7 million will support existing programs. Another $436,000 in planning grants will help 30 school districts develop 15 possible new pathways, including at 11 high schools that are new to the program.
The state says more than 8,500 students are enrolled in the pathways this school year. If the new programs receive later approval and funding, enrollment could approach 9,000 in the 2027 to 2028 school year.
Students can take advanced courses and gain experience through internships and other work-based learning in areas such as health care, clean energy, information technology, and business.
