Palestinian children in Gaza began a new school year in person on September 19, after nearly three years of war had kept many of them out of classrooms. Students returned to damaged schools, temporary learning spaces, and tents.
UNifeed reported that schools were short of desks, books, and stationery. Some children attended lessons sitting on the floor, while other classes met in tent-based schools supported by UNICEF.
Parents and teachers described the return as difficult but important. For children who had grown up amid disruption, a morning assembly and a classroom offered something that tutoring at home could not replace.
The learning spaces still need supplies and repairs. Even so, the first day marked a determined step back toward regular education.
