The European Commission announced almost 710 million euros in support for displaced people and the communities welcoming them in Sub-Saharan Africa, along with emergency assistance for people affected by crises worldwide.
The package includes 380 million euros in additional migration-related financing for 2026. The money is intended to protect vulnerable migrants, support voluntary return and reintegration, strengthen migration governance, and respond to forced displacement.
It also includes support for peace and mediation work in the Great Lakes region, health surveillance and Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and primary health care in Ethiopia.
A further 252 million euros from the EU Emergency Aid Reserve was announced for people affected by conflict, displacement, epidemics, and natural hazards. The Commission notes that this part still needs approval from the budgetary authority.
