The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $2.55 million for wetland projects in the Mid-Atlantic.
Nine states and universities will use the grants for work such as wetland mapping, monitoring, restoration, and better protection of streams and marshes.
Some of the money will support coastal resilience and habitat connections for marsh wildlife. Other projects will use drones and updated maps to understand wetlands more clearly.
The grants will also help create online plant-identification lessons for research professionals and K-12 teachers. Taken together, the projects give wetlands more care while helping more people learn why they matter.
