Scatec and EDF power solutions have started construction of the 900-megawatt Shadwan onshore wind project in Egypt, Scatec announced on October 1.

When fully built, the wind farm is expected to generate about four terawatt-hours of electricity each year. Scatec estimates it could avoid about 1.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The company says the project will be delivered in phases, with the first phase expected to begin operating at the end of 2027. The full project has an estimated investment of $716 million.

The generation and emissions figures are forecasts, not results already achieved. Construction has begun, while the first phase is still being built.
