John Cooper, a retired technology executive from Sandwich, Massachusetts, volunteers with the American Cancer Society's Road To Recovery program, which offers patients free rides to treatment appointments.

Boston 25 News reported that Cooper picked up Kerry Sullivan every weekday for six weeks, driving her from Sandwich to Plymouth while she received radiation treatment.

Sullivan told the station that the daily rides made an otherwise difficult period feel brighter. Cooper said volunteering gave him a way to help someone through a hard time.
